28. Aloha

28. Hawaii
00:00 / 02:30

I am a 64-year old Caucasian female living in Hawaii. I had my only TGA in 2017 at age 61.

I went to an introductory fitness class to try it out. During high-intensity movements, I remember starting burpees, the next thing I remember I was in the office of the gym and repeating over and over “I don’t know how I got here.”

My episode lasted approx 1.5 hours of complete amnesia and then about 1/2 hour of confusion. It was witnessed by numerous people, including a nurse who was working out at the time and was helping during my time in the office.

They told me, I had finished the workout, was high-fiving everyone, and seemed in good spirits. Then someone noticed I seemed confused. I was sitting on a bench and didn’t know what to do or where to go.

I was able to assist someone to look on my phone, we found my friend’s number and called her. She took me to the ER. By then I was pretty much back, but fuzzy.

They checked me for stroke, did some more tests and concluded I had a TIA. When I did some research the next day, I came to the conclusion it was a TGA. I made an appointment with a neurologist who immediately named it as TGA. He was pretty excited and mentioned to his intern that if he ever heard of someone coming to the ER with these symptoms to RUSH down there as he may never get the chance to see one again.

I was fuzzy and had a slight headache for a couple of weeks, and then the symptoms went away. I was pretty freaked out for a while, but after doing more research and joining an online group, I have concluded that it isn’t something of which to be frightened.

About a year later, I joined Cross-Fit. I do high-intensity workouts numerous times a week and have had no other episodes.

Aloha!

Suzanne
